Toxic Tort Litigation Attorneys

From our firm's inception in 1995, representing clients in claims of exposure to toxins has been one of Governo Law Firm's core practice areas. Our attorneys have litigated cases involving many different toxins, but have developed extraordinary proficiency in the defense of asbestos, mold and lead poisoning claims. We serve clients in Massachusetts and nationwide in toxic tort claims and other complex legal matters.

Asbestos

Our three decades of experience in the defense of asbestos cases allows us to provide insightful counsel to clients who find themselves the target of litigation. This includes situations where an entity's link to asbestos exposure is minimal at best, such as where claims are brought against a company because the manufacturer of these products is now defunct.

Talc

Talc claims are becoming a high-stakes risk management challenge to the corporations involved in the mining, processing, manufacturing and distribution of cosmetics, rubbers, ceramics, agriculture, plastics and pharmaceutical products that contain talc. Our team has represented companies involved in the talc industry for over a decade as local, regional and national counsel. We work closely with leading industry talc experts in toxicology, epidemiology and industrial hygiene to build the strongest defense strategies, to craft powerful examinations and Daubert and Frye challenges to the plaintiffs' roster of talc fact and expert witnesses.

Mold

Mold claims for property damage and personal injuries present challenges for claimants, defendants, insurers, experts and attorneys. The mold practice area group attorneys at Governo Law Firm have a tremendous depth of scientific and medical knowledge, as well as extensive, real-world legal experience. We are involved in setting the standards for mold assessment and remediation.

Lead Poisoning

Lead poisoning has been a concern for centuries; however, it was not until the 1970s that the use of lead in paint was regulated. This regulation led to an explosion in personal injury claims against owners and landlords whose properties contained lead paint. Massachusetts enacted the first Lead Law and our attorneys have decades of experience defending these highly technical and risky claims.

For example, in 1992, David Governo organized and chaired the first Mealey's National Lead Litigation Conference. The attorneys in our lead poisoning practice area group have an outstanding foundation of scientific, technical, medical and legal knowledge, which collectively lets us understand the issues peculiar to lead poisoning cases. Moreover, we can mobilize the best experts in the country to help our clients seek the best results possible.

Other Toxic Torts

In addition to asbestos, talc, mold and lead poisoning, our attorneys have represented clients in many other types of toxic tort and product defect claims. For example, we have been involved in latex allergy cases as well as personal injury claims for a variety of substances (ranging from dust to toluene) and injuries (ranging from "multiple chemical sensitivity" to cancer). Our practice also encompasses housing-related and clean air matters.
